About me

I like a good problem and I love to understand how things work.

My path to statistics was circuitous. I went to graduate school to study applied mathematics. There, I found myself in the world of mathematical finance. It is elaborate mathematics, but (at the time, at least) somewhat divorced from applications. I wanted to understand how you could actually use it. That led me to statistics.

Statistics, in turn, led me to a post doc, which led me to a start up, which led me to venture capital.

The wonderful thing about statistics is that the methods are agnostic to the applications. You get to learn theory, and you get to dive into the topic where you are trying to apply the theory. You even get to build things!

I started in Bayesian statistics and time series, then did a lot of quantitative genetics and biostats, and most recently found myself doing something akin to evaluating player performance. I have spent time on the inferential side of statistics, and on the predictive side. I have written narratives and I have written software.

As of early 2026, I am wrapping up the most recent stage of my career and am looking for my next adventure. Please do not hesitate to reach out.
